Ranch Management
In the recent past, land was valued primarily for its capacity to produce agricultural products. Today, the value of a ranch’s non-agricultural components may be significantly higher than the value due to its ability to produce assets.
As landowner’s goals have changed with the times, TerraWest Consulting has become a valued partner to ranch owners throughout the Mountain West. Our conventional land management approach has evolved to include the enhancement of fish, wildlife, and recreational resources.
We can manage your property’s day-to-day operations, employee recruitment, conservation efforts, livestock, crop production, and property maintenance. We treat every ranch with a unique approach, to find where our help is needed. We offer everything you need to truly enjoy your property and maximize profitability.
From traditional grass ranches and pivot-irrigated farms to trophy hunting and fishing retreats, TerraWest Consulting has seen it all and delivers on our commitment to enhancing our clients’ enjoyment and the health of their investment.
A critical activity for any ranch to be economically, socially, and ecology successful is planning. Planning generally involves setting goals and objectives, recording all resources, implementing plans, and monitoring progress followed by adjustments.
Conservation Management
We see economic diversification as being directly linked to responsible conservation. Conservation is rapidly becoming an industry-wide priority, and it has been a cornerstone of our operations for years, as TerraWest Consulting was started on the back of conservation. We see ranching as a beneficial alternative to managing large landscapes in the Western United States. We live on the land and have based our livelihood on how well we take care of the ecosystems that maintain our businesses.
We use cattle as a tool to disturb the surface of the targeted land to achieve our conservation goals, by recycling nutrients and improving the water cycle. This mimics the relationship between the North American Plains and the great bison herds of the past.
Successful rehabilitation requires knowledge of animal behaviors, frequency and grazing patterns, vegetative growth and dormancy seasons, moisture requirements, and ecosystem dynamics. We understand the natural processes and work within that dynamic. We can consult on the condition of ecosystem services such as conservation easements, mitigation banks, wetland mitigation banks, and carbon offsets.

Ranch Management
Collaboration
Our ranch management
teamoffers full-scale
oversight and management,
including:
- Overall ranching operations (cattle, agriculture production, wildlife etc.)
- Day-Day management
- Asset management
- Budgets and accounting
- Biological monitoring and reporting
- Staffing & compliance training
Our team focuses on the success of each ranch’s unique objective and conservation strategy. We maintain a close network of ranching professionals and training programs with accredited universities across the nation to specialize in a Ranch Management Program unlike any other in our industry. Our program offers as much or little hands-on involvement from the landowner as desired. With so much to enjoy on these large ranches, from hunting to fishing and a host of other recreational activities, many of our clients have very little time or desire to get involved in the day-day operations, equipment inventory, prescriptive management actions for vegetation etc… This is where the TerraWest Ranch Management Program comes into focus. The end result is a perfectly balanced ranch, where mitigation and durability, adaptive management protocols and recreational enjoy mental converge into an economically viable and worry free operation.
