Andrew Shields

Andrew was born and raised along the Wasatch Front in Utah and developed a passion for the outdoors from a young age. Growing up, his family spent time camping and exploring around the intermountain west. His love for the outdoors led him into the Wildlife and Wildlands Conservation program at Brigham Young University, where he gained experience with a variety of wildlife species and graduated with B.S. and M.S. degrees. His M.S. research was focused on the ungulate use of wildlife water developments throughout Utah. Prior to Joining TerraWest Conservancy, he spent nine years working as a wildlife biologist on a large ranch in Oregon. He worked to conserve multiple wildlife species and their habitat including greater sage-grouse, native trout, and mule deer.He developed a strong connection to the conservation of working landscapes. His work at TerraWest is focused on collecting scientific information to support the long-term conservation goals of the various projects. In his spare time, Andrew enjoys spending time in the outdoors with his wife and two children. He enjoys seeing his kids explore and learn about the natural world and watching in their enthusiasm grow.
